This was the first ever Illustrator endeavor for me :)

This product essentially sells you what you already have. For the design, I mimicked a kind of Cartoon Network kind of idea, a bit kitschy with a hint of 50s, with some ccccllleeeeeeaaaaarrrrrr instuctions .

This is the Log commercial from Ren and Stimpy :)

So! I’m posting after a long time. I’m going to aim to get all the products up onto the blog, with a bit of research behind them.

Hype Wipes from Vrai. I worked on them with input from Fred, Ellie and Jack.

Prior to the finished project, Fred and I had this conversation, as Hype Wipes were originally going to be called Ignorance.

I have no idea what the adverts are going to look like, but in the story boarding, we had fun with the idea that the product could be wiped on newsprint to smudge it, and wiped on a radio to detune it, cutting out any nuisance news you don’t want to hear!

so want to get things for personality Pic ‘N’ Mix sorted… it worked very well in Mini ‘Shop’

Mini 'Shop' 2 day exhibition, Novemeber 2009

for the real thing I think same sort of structure but free standing and more choice…12 or 18

so aswell as these nine need to pick 3 or 6 more

Rudeness, Hope, Exaggeration, Kindness, Despair, Selfishness, Motivation, Anxiety, Impatience

…. and or anything else

for the actual personalities/sweets i thought having screens of different patterns made up and printing on large sheets of cardboard then simply cutting them up its to rectangles …

Questions for you…

what other personality traits should be available?

where did we get the bags before/how much it cost?or was it just paper?

and how many we need?

in development!

here is upgrade at the moment, the front black square is a blister. i would appreciate some cluttery jargon for the back (left side of the net), some more ideas for underneath ‘2001 mb of life’, the top left hand text is gay, not funny enough i think, any suggestions? and PUNS = FUN. could probs do with some critasism, which bits are difficult to understand, or oddly confusing in ways which i dont mean them to be. just a few more eyes to absorb the beams and their hold council is what i need. also should it be hung (yes) or be able to sit on a shelf. what size does anyone think it should be? i the net should be at least A4 size. the image is gonna come out weird squashed i think, dont know how to change that. see a better image in the google docs guys called ‘upgrade’.  laters y’all

This is Cellu-Lite, a multi-purpose beauty spread. Yeah, you heard. I decided to ‘develop’ Cellu-lite’s unique formulae as a backlash to the volumes of so-called anti-aging or miracle cosmetic products that are on the market. The adverts for these products are packed with quasi-science mixed with consumer opinion polls to give you the latest serum which maps and scans the contours of your face on application and works to plump and smooth your naturally aging skin. Apparently..

Patrick, Martin and I worked on this, and in early discussions, we decided we wanted it to have many ‘uses’ or to develop a product range that would span a few of the absurd aspects of cosmetic consumer culture. We thought that a product that could be used on the face, toast and furniture was an absurd enough span.

Here is some quasi science from real life:

Here is some quasi-science from Cellu-Lite:

I opted to use language that would mimic the existing blurb of cosmetic packaging. To translate, The New Beauty Spread from Cellu-Lite has been made out of a mix of fats that were found underground.

Please take a closer look at this:

This stuff is £460 for 60ml.  Apparently it’s been bio-engineered. Got to love the science words, there.

Plan 59 has to be my favorite web resource of Rockwellesque 5os Americana advertising.

I don’t think we ever made a conscious choice to use this sort of aesthetic but I think it works because it makes the what is often quite dark humor; lighthearted somehow.
